Live Simply So That Others May Simply Live

Inspired by Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’ (Care for our Common Home), as part of our offertory this weekend (2/3 March) we bring forward three symbols of our commitment to engage with the CAFOD “Live Simply” initiative:

  • a poster as an outward display of our pledge to live simply;
  • a candle to represent our solidarity with the poor;
  • a “kokedama” moss ball as a sign of our intention to challenge ourselves to live sustainably with creation.

The Church invites us to work with generosity and tenderness in protecting this world which God has entrusted to us. Let us support the call to protect the planet and recognise our global interconnectivity: “There is a nobility in the duty to care for creation through little daily actions.” God has made the world and all that it contains for us all to share. As we share bread and wine remember also that we share the fruits of the earth with future generations.
